Curriculum 2017-2018

I don't think I have posted for quite a while about the curriculum we are using.  With two having graduated, I find that life was slowing down quite a bit in the homeschooling department.  With Bug added back in, it is a bit busier!

This year we have Hannah in 10th grade, Naomi in 7th grade, and But in 2nd grade.  We haven't really changed curriculum much in the last few years because we found what really works for each one and we are sticking with it! 

Hannah-10th:

Tapestry of Grace Year 1-History, Literature, Bible, Writing

Apologia Marine Biology

Math U See Pre-Calc

SOS Kansas History

Dave Ramsey Personal Finance

Economics for Everybody (2nd Semester)

Naomi-7th:

Bug-2nd:

Time4Learning-Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies

various workbooks for each subject and lots of play time, learning to play on her own, and working on setting up chores and being responsible

I think that is it.  But, who knows we may add more or change something mid-year!  That is the beauty of homeschooling-you can change what isn't working.  

Always Catching Up

The end of last week is kind of a blur. I can't believe I haven't blogged since last Thursday! Part of the reason is that the girls went to my mom's for the weekend and Steven and I spent the entire weekend veggin' out. It was actually a great weekend full of rest and spending time with my wonderful hubby.

To that end, I didn't do much on the computer. :-)

I do want to get back to this meme, though. I think it is a great idea in helping document the weeks in our school and family life.



In my life this week...
Computer crashes, reviews piling up, soccer practices, BSF lessons, gymnastics, and mountains of laundry. Last week was our Sabbath Week and we used it to rest and catch up on rest! lol We did do some cleaning but not enough. The girls also went to my mom's for the weekend.

In our homeschool this week...
Sabbath Week was last week so we didn't do school. Okay, that's not entirely true. We did our Tapestry of Grace and the older two did their sciences. Other than that we really rested from school.

Places we are going and people we are seeing...
The girls went to my mom's and Steven and I spent the weekend holed up in our house resting. We did go out to eat with great friends on Saturday night. We see so many people throughout the week with gymnastics and soccer that this is a hard question!

My favorite thing this week is...
Sabbath Week! lol I love, love, love Sabbath Week. I love that it rejunvinates us and gives us the break we need.

What's working/not working for us...
The daily schedule is chaffing a bit right now. I think it is because we all have spring fever and are just getting antsy. We may ditch the schedule from now until summer and just do school at their pace. I'm not sure about that one, I'll have to think about it some more. We are loving our curriculum and the review products we are getting.

Homeschool thoughts/questions I have...
I am seriously starting to look at next year since I will have an 8th grader and then the year after that she will be a freshmen in high school. Isn't that amazing how I figured that one out? heehee It's wiggin' me out just a bit.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

This week I have decided to join this meme. I have read other blogs that are participating in this and it is a great way to document our weeks. So, here goes!


In my life this week...well, it was my birthday on Wednesday ao the week was full of celebrating and surprises. My Dad took me out to lunch on Wednesday and my dh took me out to dinner the same night! My girls gave me the new Liz Curtis Higgs book, Mine is the Night, and my dh gave me an ipad! I had been saving up money for one so technically I paid for a portion of it but I didn't know he was doing it.

In our homeschool this week...We started a new Unit of our Tapestry of Grace curriculum. We 'got behind' the typical schedule but it is what we needed to do and it is working for us. We are continuing with our review work and enjoying the products we have. Our youngest finished her Kindergarten books and is now an official First Grader!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...we make a point of having dinner on Saturday nights with another family each week. It is a great time of fellowship and fun. We also have our homeschool group on Monday's. Then there is gymnastics on Friday's and soccer on Monday's and Thursday's with games on Saturday's.

My favorite thing this week was... Listening to my youngest dd read.  She has really taken off with her ability to sound out words and is reading like crazy!

What's working/not working for us... Chores are not working at the moment and they need to be.  Steven and I are trying to figure out some ways to encourage the girls to do their chores without having to be reminded.  It could take a while!  We are currently loving all of the school curricula we are using and plan on using all of them again.  At least at this point anyway!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... I am starting to look to high school for our oldest and it is a little intimidating.  It is making my head spin, honestly.  We take homeschooling year by year for the most part but I am starting to feel that we are in this for the long haul so I had better start making some plans to finish strong!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share... Our pastor was preaching out of the book of James this morning and the verses were from chapter 5.  It was a whole sermon on patience.  Seriously.  I'm pretty sure that God was talking to our pastor and telling him that my entire household needed to hear this!  There were several quotes that I wrote down.  Here they are:  "Grumbling is the pre-cursor to losing your temper."  ouch.  "Patience is taking a long time to boil up."  He focused somewhat on anger and your temper but it translates into many different areas.  The last quote I think I am going to type up and post on the fridge for all of us to read daily.  "Besides being the right thing to do, patience will make our lives-and the lives of those around us-better."  Yeah, we need to be reminded of that daily!
