The Eleventh Review

Last night Naomi, Hannah, and I sat around the computer to watch the first episode of "The Eleventh", a new show on the Feeln Network. We weren't sure what to expect and were honestly not getting our hopes up! But we got our snacks, drinks, and comfy chairs and started the episode.

We had to pause it :51 seconds in and we all groaned in frustration. My husband came in asking about the show and we were all hooked already. We were invested and caring about the characters. Less than a minute in. I'd say that is the sign of a successful show!

I do not want to give anything away. Trust me, you want to uncover this series on your own! By the end of the 30 minute episode we were waiting and watching the time, begging it not to end. There is a cliff hanger that we did not see coming and now we are dying to know what happens next. You can get in on the original series on Feeln. You won't be disappointed! Cloris Leachman...incredible. She is just absolutely perfect in "The Eleventh."

Old Fashioned DVD Review and Giveaway

A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. My take on this movie. I honestly thought it would another trite Christian movie where everything was perfect and the Christian was bland. We all know that the Christian life is hard and can get messy sometimes. We all make mistakes and how we handle them says more about us than always doing the right thing.

So, when we popped this movie in I was not expecting what we saw. The movie is centered around Clay and how he is handling his past mistakes.They aren't brushed over and they aren't made light of because of his faith. He has consequences and those affect others around him. His love interest has a past as well and she has to come to terms with them in light of her growing relationship with Clay.

I don't want to give anything away; but, the grittiness of this movie surprised me. The characters are real with real problems dealing with them in a real way. Did I use the word real enough? We were honestly surprised by the honesty in this movie. It was very enjoyable and one I want my daughters to watch. The lessons learned on dating/courting, male/female relationships, and mistakes in our youth are invaluable.

I recommend this movie to all young people and their parents as a great way to get conversations going.

When Calls the Heart Review and GIVEAWAY

We have loved watching these movies/series. When Calls the Heart is a family movie with incredible acting, beautiful sets and costumes, and a wholesome message. I love sitting down with my girls to watch this series. It is refreshing to know that I don't have to worry about the content or be embarrassed at unforseen situations!

I am not going to tell you much more about this video because I don't want to spoil it. But you have to see it! It is worth your time.

About the series:

The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. Grace of God DVD Review

Finding quality family movies is so hard to do these days. We have all made the mistake of sitting down with the family and thinking a movie will be appropriate for all of them. Then, it isn't. I really hate it when that happens. It is frustrating and sad to me so when a movie comes along that I know won't cause any awkward moments I jump on it.

 

Grace of God is a family movie that will get conversations going in your house. Conversations about lying, stealing, faith, prayer, relationships, just to name a few. This movie is a starting point in getting some tough subjects out in the open and gives you a nice family movie to watch together.

Yes, I got to review another movie!  I love it when I can tell you about movies the whole family can watch.  I love it even more when the movies are fantastic!  Ring the Bell is one of those movies.

I was a little worried because sometimes the Christian movies can be a little cheesy.  Don't get me wrong, I love them all and we own most of them but the quality is sometimes lower than that of the 'big budget' Hollywood movies.  That can be what sets them apart along with their messages but some find them hard to watch.


Ring the Bell is not that way.  It is very well done and had me crying by the end.  It is real and easy to get into.  I found myself instantly put off by the main character but soon cared about what was going to happen to him.  The Gospel message is presented in a natural way that doesn't feel forced and the big name appearances are fun to watch for.

Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, Matthew West, and others make appearances in this wonderful family movie.  You won't want to miss this one.  Watch this trailer:

The Christmas Lodge review and Give Away!

Movies, movies, movies.  We love movies!  It’s even better when we can watch them as a family and all feel warm and fuzzy when it’s over. 


The Christmas Lodge is just such a movie.  Here is the synopsis:

Thomas Kinkade presents Christmas Lodge: a place where a heart-warming past and loving future meet for one remarkable group of people. During a weekend trip to the mountains, Mary (Erin Karpluk) finds herself at the now- dilapidated lodge where she spent the holidays with her family growing up. Inspired by her grandfather and guided by her grandmother in heaven, Mary throws herself into the project, and during the process finds herself drawn to Jack (Michael Shanks), a handsome man who loves the lodge as much as she does. Looks like a great movie, right?  It is.  I am so glad that we were able to review this movie.  I can see this becoming a new favorite around our house.  It has just a hint of romance but not enough to gross the kids out!  But the family connections and the way that the family’s faith was woven into their daily lives was refreshing and uplifting.
I recommend this movie highly if you want a sweet, feel good movie to watch with the whole family.

Family Movie Night

We love watching movies as a family.  Yes, there are other things we like doing as a family but we seriously love turning all the lights off, popping popcorn, and snuggling up together to lose ourselves in a movie.  Family Movie Night is providing opportunities to do just that.

Tonight we have the opportunity to catch a family movie again.  A Walk in my Shoes aired some time ago and for those of you that didn't catch it the first time I highly recommend you watch it this time.  It is a great movie that will make you think.

Here's a bit about it:

Ever judge someone just by looking at them? Of course, we’ve all made snap judgments about people. But what if we really got to know them? How would our opinions change? And what if we were forced to become them…how would the shoes fit then? Stressed-out high school teacher Trish Fahey can’t understand her students’ lack of effort and why their parents don’t seem to care.

This is especially true of Justin Kremer, a popular, skateboard-loving, basketball star who is underperforming in her class. Trish has him suspended from the team and quickly chalks up the situation as a case of bad parenting.This perspective dramatically changes when Trish meets Molly, a mysterious stranger intent on helping her see things differently. When Trish wrecks her car, Molly is there as Trish wakes to find herself living the life of Cindy Kremer, the woman she has personally judged and criticized. Trish discovers that there is often more to the story and learns a powerful lesson that affects everyone she interacts with. Her husband, her daughter, the ex-Marine next door… No one is left unchanged.

This movie should open up some great dialogue around the dinner table!  It airs tonight at 8/7 c on NBC.

Family Movie Night TRUTH BE TOLD

Our family loves movies.  No seriously, we LOVE movies!  We gather around the t.v. and set up our family room like a theatre.  We dim the lights, get our snacks, and hunker down to enjoy.  Lately, though, we have had a very hard time finding movies that everyone in our family can watch.  We have ages that range from 6yo up to, let's just say more than 35!  That's a pretty wide range to keep engaged and entertained.

I am happy to say that we have found just the movies to do fill the need.  Family Movie Night!  I was able to preview this movie and I am so glad I did.  It was great!  I know that my entire family will enjoy it and I won't be worried about what the kids will see or hear.  It is just a good Family Movie.

This a funny, heartwarming movie.  We enjoyed seeing David James Elliott and Candace Cameron Bure as well as the rest of the known and new actors.  It was also great to see Jonathan Frakes directing.  It was such a well put together movie that I am planning on buying it as soon as I can.  I highly recommend watching it as a family and enjoying the valuable lessons learned through it.  The situation is this movie was a great conversations starter and we have had many lively discussion because of it.  

Watch Truth Be Told premieres on FOX (8/7c) Saturday, April 16th!  You won't be disappointed!
