Oh Maaan...

On our way to soccer practice tonight, we were riding our bikes and I was just a little ways behind our oldest two when I noticed the 9yo swerving wildly.

Then I noticed that her knee was dragging. She finally swerved to a stop and flew off onto the grass.

Her knee started bleeding right away.

Here it is...

I think that there may still be some gravel in there. We will have to wait and see. :(

Out of the mouths...

This morning as I was making breakfast, my youngest dd (3yo) said to me.

"Momma, please really try and not make it gross."

Um, yeah, I will get right on that.

A New Development

Our oldest got glasses today! She is having a little trouble seeing things far away, so we got glasses!!

Doesn't she look beautiful?

This is how my third born woke up the other morning! Poor thing was so congested that she could hardly breathe through her nose!

The Incredible, Unbreakable Egg

We are learning about birds and their eggs this week. Our experiment was to try and break an egg by just squeezing it.

The girls were so excited to try this and they were just sure that they could do it!

Here is the first attempts:

Nobody could seem to get it done!!

They were kind of disappointed that they couldn't break them. They thought that it was cool, but they wanted to get messy!

So...
I told them how to break them without hitting them and let them try!

It took a little longer than they thought!

All in all it was fun and it drew our neighbors out of their houses when they heard the screaming from yolk running down their arms!!

And the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down...

Last weekend we were being flooded. Literally. We had water in our basement and standing water in our yard. Did I get pictures of that? No.

I did get pictures of a nearby church a few days after the rain had started receding. This church had been completely surrounded by water. It was within a few feet of their building all the way around.

This was the field that the girls practiced soccer on last year!!

This is part of the same field.

At least they could use most of their parking lot again.

But not all of it.

This is not supposed to be a lake. It is supposed to be a field of green grass.

Where do you belong?

I got this from over at Kristine's blog!!

You Belong in 1986

Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day.

HEEHEEHEE!! Yup, that about sums it up, doesn't it?

It is raining. Again. Still. I do enjoy rain, just not everyday for a week. :) Okay, it hasn't really been a week; but, it feels like it!

I have some pictures that I took before the deluge started!

We found this flower growing under our bedroom window. Isn't it delicate?

Our Weeping Mulberry is weeping! I just thought it was a cool picture. :)

The girls think that piles and piles of these are really super cool! Dh doesn't like finding them in the yard while he is mowing.

This is some of the ivy that we uprooted and didn't see it was growing here. It has attached itself to a spider web and is being held up by the web. It was so cool!

We have fallen off the wagon...

This week has not been great. Monday was fine. Tuesday was not.

Our oldest dds hermit crab died. His name was Murphy and we were all in mourning. So, I decided that we just needed to do our Tapestry stuff only.

Bad choice. It through off our whole week.

Wednesday is a day full of Dr. appts so not much school is going to get done then, either.

We spent from 10:30 until 12:00 in one Dr.s office and then from 2:00 until 3:30 in another.

Some school was done during that time, just not enough.

Tomorrow, we are getting back on the wagon and we are hanging on for dear life!

Another Great Tapestry Meeting

Our Tapestry group Met again and this time we were making pericscopes. It was quite an adventure! It took a lot of prep work by the mom's and when we were in the process, one of our little guys hit his head on a table corner and cut his head open. Seriously.

We got him settled down and then cleaned him up. Thankfully, his daddy was off work and was able to take him to the Dr. to get checked out. He was fine and no stitches were needed.

Lots of cutting was involved.!

The carnage from the scissors.

Waiting is hard when you just want to play. :)

The finished products were so much fun to use.

After our craft was completed, we had sharing time. This week we had two new 'sharers'. They were so cute! Neither one of them is *really* doing Tapestry; but they listen and learn anyway.

She told us all about Peter Rabbit.

My youngest showed everyone how she wrote her name! She was so excited to be able to share like the big girls.

By the end of the day, he just couldn't hold on any longer!

I love our group and I LOVE TAPESTRY!!!

A Full Day...

This year our homeschool coop is on Mondays. Monday mornings to be exact! We start bright and early at 8:45. Did I mention that I have at least one child that has a body clock set to sleep until 8 or 8:30? I am sure we will manage, somehow!!

Well, on top of that we have joined a coop for Tapestry of Grace. And guess when it meets? Yup, Monday afternoons. Not everyone, just some.

Now, you might think that that would be an awful set up. It is not. It does make for a long day; but, it gets both groups done on the same day and we only miss one day of school for the week.

Today is the first day that we will have both groups.

As we are getting ready to leave the house at 8:00 a.m. my 9yodd comes into the house and says that there is an opossum stuck in a trashcan in the back yard. WHAT???

I am deathly afraid of rodents. This is not good. We were still needing to go to Wal-Mart to get lunches.

I went out back to look and sure enough, there it was. It was a baby. What do I do? I WILL NOT TOUCH IT.

I called my dh and he said that I could just let the dog out and let whatever happen. He didn't really mean it, he just knew that I didn't want to do anything with it!

I decided to drag the trashcan over to the grass and knock it over and run like...well, you know what I mean.

So I did and it didn't go running. I did, however!

After I was done screaming and the girls were sure that it wasn't going to attack us, we thought of another plan.

I would take a very long object and tilt the end of the trashcan up so that it would slide out. That sounded great until I heard its nails scratching along the side of the can and dropped the stick and ran away screaming like a girl! Really.

I told the girls to call the leader of our group and tell her that we might be late due to the unforseen opossum incident.

I decided to try again with the tilting thing. This time I gutted it through the scraping nails and then when I saw him running, I turned and ran the other direction screaming. At the same time my dd was still on the phone with the group leader! She heard me screaming and asked if I was okay. They said, yes, she was just running from the opossum!!

We finally put that terrifying incident behind us and went on to the next terrifying thing on our list. Wal-Mart at 8:30 in the morning.

We ran all the way through the store and made it to the coop on time!! I was still shaking when we got there.

Here is the little guy that caused such a commotion!

Life is Short

This morning I was sitting at McDonalds having breakfast with my 'Sunday Morning Crew' talking. We were minus some people and so we didn't do our Bible Study, we just talked.

Well, a little ways into the conversation my friend noticed a 'little old man' on a mo-ped and we noted how cute he was. He looked to be about 70ish. He was just being as polite as he could be in the parking lot.

A few minutes later, there were all kinds of sirens racing around. There was an ambulance, fire truck/rescue truck and we noticed that they were stopping across the street from the McDonalds.

We decided to drive by on our way home -morbid curiosity :(. Well, when we did, we noticed the little red mo-ped sitting there on the side of the road and the little old man laying on the road. They strapped him to the back board and loaded him in the ambulance.

The point of this story?

We saw him not 5 minutes before he was struck by a car. I don't know if he is going to live or die; but, it just took one moment to stop everything in his life.

My question is this: When this moment happens for you, will you be ready? Will you be ready to look into the face of God and stand accountable for either knowing Jesus or not knowing Him.

I don't mean relying on a church, a religion, a certain book, a certain person, or anything else. I am talking about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the one true Son of the Living God.

Do you know Him?

Here are the birdnests!

My sister just pointed out that I never put up the pictures of the finished bird nests!!

Here they are!

How did she learn to do that?

Today, the youngest wanted to do school. I had bought some books for her and she was thrilled.

It started with tracing lines.

It moved onto letters.

Then, she wanted to write her name!

I thought, why not. It probably would just be some scribbles; but, lets try.

I wrote her name and told her to look at it and then write it.

SHE DID!!

Here is a picture of her name. It's not a great picture but I think you can see it!

The second line is hers. Isn't that cool?!!

Building a Better Nest

In Zoology, we are learning about nests. You know, the kind that birds build?

So, we were to try and build one on our own. Actually, the kids were doing it; I refused!

They had to find their own things to use and then decide how to build it.

It was a lot of fun watching them figure it out.

Okay, this first one isn't the bird nests; but, this grasshopper was so HUGE that I had to put the picture in!!

She did not want to get her hands dirty!

She, on the other hand did not mind getting as dirty as she could. :)

She was the dirtiest of all!

The youngest just wanted to make 'soup'!
